Accessibility

'Accessibility' is all about making it possible for everyone, including blind and otherwise disabled users to readily access information on a website.  It's about clear navigation and layout.

Standards based design

The site uses CSS (cascading style sheets), level 2.1, for text and layout.

Pages in this site meet the following W3C accessibility and quality standards, which gives greater cross-browser compatibility and readability by specialist access software.

Valid xhtml 1.0Valid CSS!

Links

To comply with accessibility guidelines, most links on this site do not open in a new window but should there be an exception to this rule, you will either find a warning at the top of the page or see either this symbol Opens in new window or this one pdf document - opens in a new window (the latter refers to a pdf document).

Zoom and text resizing/formatting

IE7 zoom buttonThe site design supports text resizing for the main content.  However, recent versions of Internet Explorer and most other modern browsers provide a better option to this by giving the opportunity to zoom in or out. This can be achieved via the link at the bottom right of the page in IE - see left - or, for most browsers, via the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + and Ctrl -

If your browser is out of date remember you can normally update it free of charge.

Although we are not in a position to recommend it generally, if you have disability issues such as partial vision, you may find the Opera browser useful, in that you can easily adapt the view to meet your own needs.
